Motivation: How to FINALLY Get the Clients That You WANT

Have you ever been faced with a project and instantly felt that you couldn’t do it?

That you don’t have the required skills or experience?

Or that you’re simply not good enough?

You’re OH SO, SO, SO not alone.

We usually feel these moments of self doubt especially when faced with big projects.

Success comes with taking risks but I like the way that Anthony Robbins puts it, “you have to fail your way to success.”

Let’s talk about how you can motivate yourself to say “yes” to great projects, even if you’re not quite feeling up to the task.

MOTIVATION HACKS

Look back at how far you’ve come

You are not where you were a year ago.

You have come a long way in developing yourself and your brand.

The things you did a year ago were challenges but now, you do them with ease.

If you could accomplish so much, don’t you think you are capable of anything you set your mind to?

Work on yourself and stay up to date

Keep on working to develop the necessary skills to correctly carry out your job.

Don’t remain stagnant. Business trends change and by working on yourself, you’ll be ready for anything thrown at you.

If you’re a designer, be up to date with design applications.

This way, if you get a big job, you can tweak your skills to work on the project.

Find a cheerleader

You need a friend or a family member to motivate you when you doubt your abilities.

Unfortunately though, sometimes families can be more critical than supportive and if that’s the case, you need to seek out a solid support system elsewhere.

This is where friends come in. Don’t have any friends? Try to make them.

Find people who share similar interests and most importantly, are willing to believe in you, even if you don’t believe in yourself.

Good friends are bound to encourage you to say yes to the jobs you’re uncertain of.

It’s way too easy to let your social life disappear when you’re busy operating your own business but if all you pay attention to is work, work is all you’re ever going to be left with.

Be willing to learn

Don’t know how to do something? Learn it.

Instead of giving up completely and moving on, learn how to do that very thing that stopped you from taking the job.

If a similar job presents itself, you’ll be better positioned to say yes, and do the job thoroughly.

Some tasks may be complicated but you’ll realize that you can do them when you settle down to learn about them.

Be honest

There’s a subtle way of telling your clients that you don’t think you can do a job without coming off as incompetent.

Instead of saying an outright “no,” establish honest communication with the client.

You can tell them you really don’t know much about the project but you are willing to give it a shot and learn, perhaps at a discounted rate.

This way, you won’t disappoint them, and when you deliver quality work, they will be impressed.

Believe in yourself

You need to be your greatest cheerleader.

Don’t listen to that tiny voice that tells you that you can’t do it.

Try to have a positive outlook and if you’re faced with hurdles, keep on pushing.

Don’t quit. At least not without a fight. Don’t say, “I can’t do it.”

Instead, say, “How can I do it?”

Be willing to get help

No one knows everything. Don’t be too proud to ask for help when needed.

You have a task you’re unsure of? Ask a colleague or even a competitor.

There’s a lot they can do to help you.

Use resources like Facebook Groups and Reddit to converse with people in your industry.

Then there’s always the option to pay for knowledge from experts. This can cut the learning curve significantly but it’s not in everyone’s budget.

Break the project into bits

A project may look like a behemoth at first glance.

But if you break the project into smaller tasks, you will realize how do-able it really is.

Remember, there’s a first time for everything

There’s a first walk. A first success. A first failure. A first love. All you need to do is say yes.

There is another really important side to this motivation coin – and that’s knowing when to say NO. Check out this week’s video where I break down the how and why of saying NO so you can finally have the clients that you really want.
