The Truth About Social Media Marketing: Why Email Still Wins

The Truth About Social Media Marketing: Why Email Still Wins | Lisa Anne

It’s about time.

You need to know the truth about social media marketing…

And how it compares to email marketing.

Many people think that email is dead and that social media is the only way to go, but that’s just not true.

Email still outperforms all other channels regarding getting conversions and sales, and I have the data to prove it.

Let’s chat about ways trusty old email is still better than social media content (if you think that email is dead, let’s see if I can change your mind!)

1. More Personal

Social media does have its advantages.

You can show up and be yourself.

You can showcase your work and personal life.

But the thing with social media is that people know that you are talking to all your followers simultaneously.

Email can be personalized so much more.

You can personalize your emails so that your recipient feels like you are talking to them alone – and that is more likely to get their attention!

2. Enhanced Privacy

Email also gives a level of privacy that social media cannot match.

With Social media platforms, your account will be public if you are trying to grow your audience and reach.

So anyone who lands on your profile or sees your content can see your message.

When you send an email, you can be sure that your message will only be seen by the person or people you intended it for.

3. Higher Return on Investment with Email Marketing

Research and data from running my campaigns show that email has a higher return on investment than social media.

Email marketing has been shown to produce an ROI of 4,300%.

… while social media has an ROI of only 0.71%.

A stat I saw the other day was that 77% of people said that email was their preferred method of receiving offers from businesses…

While only 2% said they preferred social media.

And that’s coming from a sale and product perspective.

When you run a business where you are service-based or are the face of your business, it’s even more important to focus on the email side of things.

And you won’t just get a financial return on investment.

You’ll get a lot more data and insights through email, which will help you make more tweaks and fine-tune your marketing.

The more you tweak your campaigns and marketing based on what the numbers tell you…

The better results you are going to get.

4. Precision Targeted

Now, I mentioned before that you could get personal with emails…

But email can also help you send those laser-targeted messages to your clients and prospects.

Here’s a hot tip: when you start to organize your email list, you tag everyone with specific keywords based on their interests.

For example, if I know someone on my list looking for webinar tips and tricks, I can segment them into one campaign.

Or, if I know people specifically interested in running social media ads, I can tag them differently.

5. More Engagement with Email Marketing

Email lists generally have a higher rate of engagement than social media posts.

Are you surprised by that?

Social media engagement is super important, but typically you are only hitting a small percentage of people per post.

With email, you are landing in everyone’s inbox.

Let’s compare the numbers.

On average, the Instagram engagement rate for a good account would be around the 3-5% mark.

Most people are below 1% engagement, however.

And typically, only 1-3% of your followers see your content.

With email, an average open rate is 20%.

Meaning 20% of your email list will at least open your email and read your content.

Click rates are the next aspect we look at with emails. Anything over 1% is a goal.

You are still reaching more people via email with or without a click.

Email marketing is honestly such a great way to connect with potential and current clients and all of your leads.
